Roxy Refreshments - Episode 2, Kjersti Buaas

A Season in the life of Kjersti Buaas! Kjersti is admired as one of the best all round snowboarders out there. She can shred the pipe, rip the park and kills it in the back-country. Most riders are happy to specialize in one area but not Kjersti -- she pushes the limits in all areas and definitely has an 'access all areas' pass to show for it!

Enjoy the fast paced, live life to the full vibe of this podcast which was exclusively edited by Kjersti and then get out and shred whatever you love to shred!

Keystone and Breckenridge with Roxy Team

Hello everyone,

I hope for most of you season has already started and you are all amped for some park and powder riding. We are still in US in Colorado but soon we are heading home for xmas.

Here is a short edit from Keystone right after they opened the park. I met Lisa Wiik this day shredding some boxes and i asked her if she would film me for couple of runs and thats what came out of it :)

Almost every day after riding girls either hit the Woodward or we went to gym. Aimee has always lot of energy so we need to get it out of her somehow and those two places are the best for it.

So for Margot and me its the last day of riding tomorrow and then we go back to Europe. Aimee is staying bit longer because she is doing the Dew Tour competition and tomorrow she has her 1st day of practice. So fingers crossed FULLER!!!!!!!!

I wish you all Merry Christmas, lot of snow for all of us and epic riding days!!!!!

Basa

From Cali to Costa!

As sad as it was to leave the TransparentSea voyage, the Californian coast and the Surfers for Cetaceans family, the jungles of Central America were calling!  Before parting ways we took a final opportunity to unite local surfers for whales and dolphins whilst at the Cosmic Creek retro surf comp.

_MG_2548

Over 100 pros, fans and families showed a united front for whale and dolphin freedom and solidarity with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) who filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in San Diego charging SeaWorld with violating the 13th Amendment by capturing and enslaving killer whales. The animal rights group bases the complaint against the aquatic theme parks on the fact that the 13th Amendment prohibiting slavery and involuntary servitude contains no language indicating that it applies solely to human beings.

Hopefully more and more people are waking up to the fact that dolphins and whales are sentient beings, and should be enjoyed in the wild - not in tanks performing tricks, whether this notion stands up in a court of law - only time will tell.

I reckon the best way to get up close and personal to dolphins is to simply go surfing, as it's clear they love wave riding too!  My most amazing encounter with a wild pod happened whilst surfing on my last day in San Diego, it was such a delight as they came right up to me to say hi!

Now Women for Whales are based in Costa Rica so as to be close for the upcoming International Whale Celebration in Panama City, July 2012.

Whilst here, we have been spreading the whale word, and Nori completed the above mural overlooking Playa Carmen beach (Nicoya Penninsular) - big thanks to Jobbies Longboards for the wall!

We also visited the local school - Little people non profit in Mal Pais - to give a talk about the local marine life as Costa Rica is home to over 3O species of cetacean (and for those who don't know; Cetacean refers to whales, dolphins and porpoises!)  We had a great time with the kids who got really creative drawing their favourite friends in the ocean and joined our HandSTAND for the South Atlantic Whale Sanctuary.

Stay tuned for more campaigns and creativity in honour of whale freedom at Women for Whales!

COLORADO

last week I travelled out to America for some training. The journey was long; but well worth the while! The first couple of days were really warm and bluebird and a lot of great tricks were thrown down by everyone!

To entertain ourselves on a night, we would venture down to Woodward to learn some new tricks into the foam pit. Woodward was like a fair groung to us, as we all found it extremely fun and again some phenomenal tricks were being layed down into the foam pit and on the trampolines.

Breckenridge's jumps are the perfect size for learning new things, so there were a lot of great tricks being tried.

As christmas is drawing closer, the weather started to change and we were deffinately feeling the christmas spirit when the temperature dropped and it began to snow. To avoid getting pottential frostbite in our toes and to save our energy for a better day, we decided to entertain ourselves by buying a large piece of cardboard and some childrens crayons for less than a dollar and draw the Roxy team. It is drawn by Aimee, Basa and myself!

The weather has turned bluebird again so I am really looking forward to the coming week!!!
