Maldives.

So the snowboard season is over, that means most of us are at home, either working, hitting the gym, summer snowboarding or surfing! I spent one month at home training and then went on a surf mission to the Maldives with some friends, here is a blog from my trip, for more pics, check here.

3 days surfing Lohis, Hudanhuranfushi

We then spent a week on this big girl…

The GTM cruiser! surfing, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins and lots of fishing!

Core and yoga went down most days, Jigga man aka Weaver is the boss at Yoga, he had me and the Jones up getting involved in the session every day after the surf.  Greenshields also got involved in the core and had us doing all sorts of maneuvers!

checking out local islands, still not sure to this day whether the boys made us wear scarfs round our heads because of the religion or for a laugh! either way,  it was great to see how they live on these tiny islands.

Local Baum wins open division of the 12th annual Roxy Wahine Cup

Buanca Buitendag wins the junior division, getting a spot to the world's!

Sarah Baum  emerged victorious today in the open women's division at South Africa’s biggest stand alone women’s surfing event, the Roxy Wahine Cup. 17 year old Baum scored an impressive heat total of 16.50 out of a possible 20 points to earn herself the winner’s cheque of R10 000. Baum surfed fast and radically in the 3-4 feet solid waves to claim first place. 

Bianca Buitendag who had just beaten Baum in the U20 Pro Junior division was convincingly beaten by an on-form Baum to finish second in the open women’s division. “I am very happy with winning the event, I would have been stoked to win both divisions but couldn’t seem to find my rhythm in the previous final.

This win definitely gives me a lot of confidence going into my next few competitions,” said an elated Baum who spends most of her time surfing at the competition venue, New Pier. Chantelle Rautenbach (Melkbosstrand) and Tasha Mentasti (Cape Town) finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the same final.

In the U20 ASP Pro Junior division final it was Buitendag who got the better of fierce rival Baum by posting two high scores in the 8 point region. Buitendag won herself R7 000 in prize money and an automatic slot into the ASP World Pro Junior Series to be held later on in the year. Baum managed to place second with a heat total score of 13.25 points, Heidi Palmboom (Bluff) and Faye Zoetmulder (Cape St. Francis) placed 3rd and 4th respectively.

Torah Bright - Lake Powell

Last week, I went to Lake Powell for a much needed summer adventure and a getaway from home improvements. I’ve lived in Utah for a long time now and this was my first trip down there and it was absolutely amazing! If you’ve never been I highly recommend it. We did the whole Lake Powell experience, renting a houseboat and jet skis; cruising around the millions of years of sandstone channels, jumping off cliffs, swimming and just taking in the massiveness of it all. So beautiful! Here are a few of the hundreds of photos I took throughout the week. Enjoy and get yourself there as soon as possible!

Lipstick productions teaser out today!

The new film teaser from Lipstick productions up and comming all girl snowboard film called '5 more minutes....please?!" is out today. Roxy is a sponsor of the project and Roxy riders Basa Stevulova, Aimee Fuller, Margot Rozies, Aline Bock and Tania Detomas have been busy filming for the film project. The full film will be out in October 2011. Check out the teaser!

Knee rehab

I managed to finish my little edit from my rehab. I was doing rehab 3 times a week over the last 3 month and as it was such a big injury my knee didn't really start bending and moving as it should so I got another surgery last wednesday to get out the scar tissue. So now I should be able to bend it properly soon and hopefully start training as soon as possible. I have another 8 weeks where I can't train with weights just get it moving really. And another 3 or 4 month without sports.
But I am really motivated to get it good again and I try to be as patient as i have to be and looking forward to a summer in Innsbruck and in september the ocean again.... wuhuu!
