We rent bikes for whole day and cruise around the Venice beach. It definitelly felt like summer time and i can claim we got proper sunburn. Tourists!

KINGSCLIFF / AUSTRALIA (Sunday 27th March, 2011): IT was finals galore at the Malfunction Surf Festival  at Kingscliff today, with the 28th annual event wrapping up in building 3-4 ft (1m) waves.

Under blue skies, offshore winds and larger wave conditions, Australia’s top longboarders and a strong contingency of the world’s best fought it out for glory across multiple divisions.

Jen Smith, the two-time ASP Women’s World Longboard champion (2007 and 2009), was in a class of her own in the 30-minute finale, schooling Melissa Combo (Ballina), Emma Webb (Victoria) and Jodie Barsby (Crescent Head)  with a combined two-wave total of 14.14, which included a 6.47 on her opening ride and an even stronger 7.67.

Jen, who claimed a second place at the Noosa Festival, said she was eager to taste victory in the LQS women’s division during her time in Australia.

“It’s been good,” she said. “Getting second at Noosa was the main reason I came to the Malfunction.  I wasn’t going to do it and coming so close in Noosa I wanted to do better.  I haven’t done well in Australia over the past few years, so it feels good to win.”

Blizzard conditions at the Roxy Chicken Jam

Well, for the end of March the weather this week at the Roxy Chicken Jam in Mammoth has been far from spring like! It has not stopped snowing since we arrived and the wind has been howling all week as well. This meant that all the training for the comp had to be cancelled and the competitions themselves proved to be very difficult to run. In the end the pipe contest was held in very windy conditions forcing the top pros to opt out as they were being blown onto the deck by the wind. The younger riders still put on a great show though and it was great to see everyone making the most of some pretty challenging conditions. In the end it was Kelly Marin who took the top spot with a very impressive run including a crippler and a Michaelchuck. Well done to Kelly! It was also great to see so many young riders riding so well, especially ten year old Chloe Kim who was throwing back to back 5s and a frontside 720 as well - at ten years old!

Here is 11 year old Maddie with Torah getting into the spirit of things in their Roxy Spirithoods

Although the slopestyle was impossible to run, the comp organizers decided to make the most of all the powder and the fun times the riders were having in all the new snow. Instead of a slopestyle contest the Chicken Jam turned into the powder jam and the girsl were split into teams of three, given a go pro and the day to make the best shots they could. The clips will be edited by Roxy and the winning rider and team will be announced on the 11th of April. The contest format was a brilliant improvisation and everyone soon got into the spirit of things - helped by the Roxy Spirithoods. The finished edits should be a lot of fun and will definitely show how riding powder with your friends can always be a great way to spend the day not matter how bad the weather is!

Kjersti Buaas in One Life Wednesdays. Episode 6, Davos Switzerland

Roxy team rider Kjersti Buaas and the One Life team head to Switwerland for this latest episode. Here's Kjersti's review of what went down.

After Christmas we all went for the first 6 Star TTR Event of the season, the O'neill Evolution Jam in Davos, Switzerland.
This was the first year for girls to enter the slopestyle and this was very exciting! All of us made it to finals and I'm stoked on my 3nd place in halfpipe and Sarka's 2rd place in slopestyle!
It was also my birthday, and the girls surprised me with a paragliding trip, flying above Davos after the pipe finals...
Experiences like this helps me slow down, take time to breathe and realize how good life is in a rather busy season!

Roxy Chicken Jam day 1. Postponed

Hello everybody!

We are here in Mammoth for Roxy Chicken Jam  and its hard to say if weather is bad or good. Definitelly bad for riding contest but its amazing how much it is snowing and it makes us sooo happy. We didnt have such a snow conditions in Europe so we are super stoked.  GOPR0136

Today pipe and slope quali were supposed to be on but due to strong wind and snowing it was postponed. We couldnt just stay at home if there is so much snow outside so we drove around and found a perfect spot for little powder kicker. Well have a look at the edit by Aimee :)

And just to prove you guys that there is really a lot of snow check this out!

Verbier Xtreme 2011

The conditions at the Verbier Xtreme last weekend were more than demanding. It has not been snowing for a long time in Verbier until the Bec de Rosses approximately got 30-40 cm of fresh snow on top of a bad layer two days prior to the event. The face looked really beautiful in the morning, but we also knew that the fresh snow would just cover some dangerous sharks underneath.

I was trying to be faster, stronger and higher...it didn´t work out 100%, but I am happy that at least I have tried..

Also the avalanche risk rised after the dump and we realized in how dangerous conditions the face really was after my friend Maria Kuzma got caught in an avalanche on her last cliff jump. After the avalanche had released, we could not see her anymore from the bottom. We thought that she got burried by the snow. Anne-Flore, Janina, Jackie and I were trying to run up to her, but it was just impossible for us to reach the point where the avalanche has stoped. We felt so useless and strong emotions were coming up. Luckily she managed to shovel herself out of it. We are more than happy that she is fine and as Anne Flore already said: " Snowboarding, freeriding, winning or loosing....at the end there is nothing more important than you and your friends arriving save at the bottom."

Sarah Burke's Winning Run

Last week in Tignes, France, Roxy skier, Sarah Burke, won her second Winter X Games gold medal for 2011 and proved that she is the leader in women’s skiing superpipe. With huge airs, a corked 900, ally-oop flat spin 540 and a 720, Sarah earned her place at the top of the podium. This comes hot on the heels of Burke’s gold medal finish in January at Winter X 15 in Aspen, Colorado.

What makes this double gold extra impressive is that due to a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery, Sarah had been forced off her skis from April to December 2010. Now, fully healthy and back in business, Sarah has her sights firmly set on the inaugural skiing superpipe event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Things are looking very good for this Olympic hopeful.

Congratulations, Sarah- we’re so proud of you!!
