Speed - Flow - Power

IMG_6402

Wise words of Ozzy windsurfer Scotty McKercher. These 3 ingredients : ‘Speed, flow and power’ totally guide me through my moves. Whether it is a jump, a wave ride or anything else to perform.

Without the speed you are no where to continue your motions.

The flow means to me; to go with what ever the wave or the moment allows you to do.

The power is your personal power, your strength and the will power to go for it a 100%. This bottom turn (see pic) felt good.

I remember ‘laying it down’ and I recognized myself getting my ‘groove back’. Good feelings, and good times. For sure a day to remember: Great waves, good solid winds, amped sailors (preparing for Jaws that will brake tomorrow!), big smiles and Dan watching me sail and taking this picture!

Anne Marie REICHMANN, Aloha Friday SUP session

Sans-titre-1

I am not sure how many times a year it happens ,but today it happens; It is a friday and it is the 13th. I actually am a little bit superstitious! When a lather is standing up; blocking me on the walkway, I will walk around it and not underneath. This is something that I can control. When a black cat stops in front of me and looks at me; I DO think... whoooh... that is a pretty intense black cat, but then... I let it go because I can’t blame the cat for ‘my fortune or future’ cause it’s black. That is actually how far my superstitiousness goes!

My day so far is treating me very well on Friday the 13th.

With a slowly increasing Easterly wind on the north shore of Maui, I thought it was a good idea to head back to the south west side again where I scored great waves yesterday together with Devin and Donna. (a big North swell wrapped around to the south-west side of Maui). The swell had dropped, but there were still fun ‘left over’ waves with at the end... as it seemed a new south swell mixing in...

The Tiki 8’5” by 28 wide (Starboard) is my favorite board for in the waves. I love the feel of how light it is and how well it turns, because it is a lot shorter than your ‘average’ board (around 10’ feet).

Daida ( from the Canary Islands) and her boyfriend Rodrigo joined me. Daida is an inspiration for me in windsurfing as her jumps are sky high - strong - and fearless. Her wave knowledge is also ‘spot on’ from day 1 I saw her and her twin sister (Iballa) windsurf. Now she is here on Maui for ‘the windsurfing season’ and took some of her first waves on a Stand Up with great result (check pics below!). Rodrigo; a pro rugby player from the Canary Islands took his first waves surfing today. He also paddles his first meters on a SUP board!

As you can see, we took the waterproof camera out in the water with us and documented our session.

Roxy Rider Enni Rukajarvi wins the Pleasure Jam!

I am very happy to announce that the kick off slopestyle comp of the year has been won by Roxy new comer Enni Rukajarvi from Finland. Enni competed in a very strong ladies field on a great course and came up trumps ahead of Cheryl Maas and Cilka Sadar with a strong cab 540, a frontside 360 and a backside 360.. This is Enni's first major win and we are all very proud of her. The other Roxy riders in the event all rode well too, with Aimee Fuller ripping in the qualis and Britte Van der Pouw and Basa Stevulova all getting a good start to the season.

Next stop for a lot of the team is Colorado where they will train and compete in Copper Mountain and Breckenridge. Meanwhile the rest of the team are happy that the snow is falling around Europe and are getting their sliding feet ready to go. Watch this space!

Caroline Angibaud is the World Waveski Champion for the 8th times

Hello,

After 2 months working hard in my surfing school in Vendee i had to fly to Hawaii with Loïc my surfing tandem partner to take part into the Tandem Surfing World Championship in Waikiki ! This is the third time we take part into this event and we really wanted to reach the semis but we didn't had a lot of waves so... we finish 10th. The good point is just 2 days before leaving Hawaii we went surfing on the North Shore, that was a great experience for us !

Straight after Hawaii i flew to Australia (Coffs Harbour) for the World Waveski Championship, i couldn't train a lot this summer so i was a little bit stressed but waves were great and surfing feeling also. Moreover Coffs Harbour is a wonderfull place with kangaroos visiting us in the garden !

The level was high this year with all former ladies world champs taking part into the contest. During all heats i was 2 points higher than the other girls but the begining of the final was hard for me, i couldn't find scoring waves for the first 15 minutes.... i surfed my 2 best waves in the last 10 minutes and took the lead of the final and won my 8th world title. It was an amazing feeling. http://www.subgraviti.com/worlds09.php

The next week was the last french longboarding cup in Vendée (where i come from), i was tired with traveling and competing and didn't want to compete but my club made the entrie for me, and luckly for me because i won this contest with a 8.5 scoring wave in the final at home.

The next week we had to fly to Florida to take part into the American waveski championship in Sebastian Inlet (south of Cocoa Beach), we were unlucky with waves, waiting for an hurrican that never came...anyway, Florida is a great surfing place with strong surfing culture. Because of the lack of waves we towed out with a big bungee, it was a lot of fun !

Last trip for 09 was Reunion Island at the begining of november where i took part into the french waveski championship and where i organized the World Waveski Tour (contest for only top 16 best men in the world and top 6 women), i won both of them but now i need to sleep !! Reunion Island is amazing with beautiful landscape, volcano, great waves uncrowded, even St Leu in the early morning ! http://www.subgraviti.com/reunion09.php

If I look back, this is for sure my best surfing/traveling fall i've never had, i' ready for spring with others travels and contests around the world !

Thanks

Caro

Roxy Refreshments: Trailblazers

Here in Utah today Brighton mountain opens for the first time- unfortunately I can’t make it, but I know Erin Comstock is up there dusting the rust off her edges on their jib line. Hopefully some of you readers are somewhere in the world where you too can enjoy a little early season shredding, even if it means hiking up a local sledding hill. But if you’re still waiting for the snow to start falling, here’s a new video to keep you fired up. The video features a trip we took in March with Snowbaorder Magazine (see the October issue) to a remote area of Northern California that had never been ridden before. Be sure to watch it to the very end, there’s a surprise waiting…
Until next time!

Sofia Mulanovich Wins Movistar Perú Classic

081109_500__podium_sofia

Sofia quoted as saying, “It doesn’t even feel real that this is happening right now,” Mulanovich said. “I have wanted to win this event for so long, and have always been disappointed. To do it here, in front of my friends and family and in good waves at Lobitos is a dream come true. Viva Peru!”

The final was a battle between Sofia and the two time event winner, Stephanie Gilmore. After a horrible crash the day before, Sofia fought back in the final to take the win. Sofia now sits at third on the 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour ratings

Another Roxy surfer, Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 18, 2009 ASP Dream Tour rookie, matched her best result of the year with an equal 3rd at the Movistar Peru Classic. Arguably one of the most in-tune performers at Lobitos, Fitzgibbons lost a nail-biter Semifinal to eventual winner Mulanovich.

Roxy Rools OK, Saas Fee

The Roxy European snow team have been training and competing in Saas Fee Switzerland, officially kicking off the 09/10 season in the best way possible with an outstanding win from Torah Bright in the World Cup half pipe event held last Thursday.  Torah competed alongside fellow Roxy team mates including Lisa Wiik from Norway, Kendal Brown from New Zealand, Paulina Ligoska from Poland, Alyona Alenka from Russia, Mirabelle Thovex from France and Lesley Mckenna from the UK. Mirabelle was next best of the Roxy girls on the day with a career best result of 5th place and Paulina followed close on her heals with a notable 7th place. Mirabelle has gone from strength to strength this last season and it is great to see all her hard work paying off. Torah took the win with a Cai Xuetong from China in second and Sophie Rodriguez in third.Torah's win concluded a month of Roxy activity in the pretty little alpine resort of Saas Fee.

The month started off with the Roxy Future Team camp, a yearly camp for the up and coming Roxy team riders hosted by the Hotel Dom and Saas Fee and led by Roxy coach Lesley McKenna. The Future camp went really well with the riders all pushing one another and building some strong foundations for the coming months in the form of new tricks and renewed team spirit. Roxy new addition Enni Rukajarvi from Finland definitely made a great first impression with her smooth skills in the pipe and on the kickers. The Roxy Team welcomes Enni and looks forward to many happy days shredding with her.

As well as ruling on the snow the Roxy Team were to be found representing all over town no matter the occasion. Team riders were even to be spotted among the undead of Halloween, although the Roxy ghosts seemed pretty familiar and very friendly......

The month of October actually kicked off for the Roxy Team before getting on the glacier in Saas Fee with the announcement that Lisa Wiik won the much coveted Female Snowboarder of the Year in Norway. The award was given for all the amazing results Lisa got last season including her TTR 3rd place and her BEO slopestyle win. We are extremely proud of Lisa and are all looking forward to more great riding from her this coming season.

Lisa with her well deserved award.

The Roxy Team are now heading all over the place as they all start their season proper. Some of the riders are heading to the Pleasure Jam in Austria next week while some others are heading to Colorado at the end of the month for some training and the Dew Tour competition. We are all stoked to have been able to catch up with as many of the riders as possible in Saas Fee and are all very much looking forward to the Chicken Jam in Austria at the start of Jan where we will all get to meet up again. Until then we will keep you posted of our progress and our travels.

Lesley
