Introducing the Refreshments – Our New Snow and Ski Podcasts!

Hi everybody! This is Amber Stackhouse from the snowboard team. I woke up this morning to fresh snow in the mountains here in Salt Lake City, so if that’s any indication, it looks like it’s going to be a good snow season. While I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer weather just yet, I’m definitely looking forward to playing on my snowboard soon.

So in honor of winter’s early arrival, here’s a teaser for the new Refreshments snow team video series we have. Refreshments will be dropping all season long starting in November, featuring the likes of Torah Bright, Erin Comstock, myself, and Kjersti Buaas, as well a new batch of rising Roxy stars.

I helped make the videos, so if you have any questions or comments I can personally answer them for you.

Enjoy the show!

Onboard of the Belem...

Hello all!Belem1

I am just back from a great weekend in St Nazaire with ROXY and the Roxy Boys, taking part in the festivities at the start of the Solidaire du Chocolate double-handed transat race for the Class 40s.

We went out sailing - great weather, albeit a bit light wind - both days with some great guests. We also got a personal guided tour of the great square rigger the "Belem" who was there to celebrate the race too (she was originally a chocolate-carrying ship!)

Personally it is an emotional weekend, as this was my last sail on board Roxy as she is now up for sale and I have no more opportuities to sail her. I spent a little moment alone at the chart table remembering all the great times I have had sailing Roxy and I hope she will find a new skipper very soon....

I can't be too sad though as my time with Roxy was AMAZING and now I am already skippering my new "machine" ARTEMIS and thoroughly enjoying it! The Transat Jacques Vabre Race is coming up too quickly. Tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday are our last official training days before finishing the last race preparations....

More news from training ASAP as long as I'm not too tired to tap on my keyboard!

Roxy Snow Team back in action

Some of the junior members of the Roxy snow team have been in Saas Fee this last week on the annual Roxy Snow training camp. 11 Riders in all joined Roxy coach Lesley McKenna for a fun packed week of training and off snow workshops. As well as learning new skills on the mountain the girls got to grips with a bit of media training and goal setting as well as plenty of dryland training and yoga. The girls based themselves in the Hotel Dom as usual and, as ever were made to feel extremely welcome there. They made the most of the great park and pipe in Saas Fee as well as the skate park and playing fields.

The weather was not epic all week however and we lost a couple of days due to wind. We made the most of the lovely scenery though and took a treck up to the Hannegg side of the valley. Here are the girls high above the Saas Fee village.

The Roxy Snow team will soon be back in action in the first contests of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Many of the girls will compete in Saas Fee in either the Europa Cup or the World Cup in the next few weeks. We will keep you posted of their progress.

LEE ANN CURREN QUALIFIEE POUR L’ASP WOMEN’S WORLD TOUR 2010 !

Samantha's update

I am writing this whilst eating my porridge this morning! We are off out training again at Port La Foret. Yesterday was a great day with 20+ knots of wind, and 5 boats. Our objective of the day was to improve our boatspeed and to work on taking and shaking reefs (not particularly simple on Artemis!) We had a terrible start because our VHF wasn't working and we missed the timing, but we managed to stay with the group and work hard on our objectives.

A reach, then a beat, then an hour's break to shoot helicopter images for the TJV, then we got back within the fleet for the end of the run and the reach home.

Boatspeed is getting better and we're slowly getting a better feeling for what Artemis likes and what makes her go fast.

With 20+ knots of wind, it was pretty wet - especially reaching home with boatspeed 19-20 knots all the time! Quite a long day too, and very tired at the end!

Better go - need to be at the briefing at 09.30!

Summer Dream in Bali

To get ready to start the new winter season I decided to go on holiday to Bali with my friends. As surfing is my second passion after skiing Bali is the perfect place-, warm water, tropical climate, white beaches.....and really nice waves.

Sans-titre-1

The first week we decided to go to Lombok to get away from the tons of people and to surf the mellow reef breaks of grupuk bay and a really nice wave called Mawi. We enjoyed the more aboriginal way of life of the sasak people there.

After we heard there is a really big swell coming towards Bali ( the biggest seen since a long time). We decided to watch the famouse waves Padang Padang and Uluwatu in its best conditions. We stayed two days in Bingin right in front of the beach with the breaks Bingin and Impossibles .... As it was a little bit  to big for us everything we  did was staring onto the waves like mesmerized, eating, sleeping and swimming.

With this inspiration of the best surfing, we needed to get into the water as fast as possible. We went to the little island Nusa Lembogan. We were really lucky the swell dropped again and we could go surfing Shipwrecks. This wave scared us at first because of the shallow reef, but it turned out to be the best wave we surfed. We had two really nice sessions. Never before I took a wave where I didn´t see the actual wave, only the reef bottom trought the epic clear water.

Sans-titre-3

I had a really nice time and I am happy that I surfed some really nice reef breaks, which scared me before. I improved my surfing, and I got lots of surf experience!

Now I am ready... the winter can come!!!!

I just came from the European Skateboard Championship when I meet 5 girl from different places of spain here in the basque country. I was impressed by the

skating level of the girls because it was the first time I was skating with other spanish girls. We spent 4 days filming and shooting all day and I think we made a

good job. I felt really motivated skating with them and we had a great time together, so we are going to repeat the experience as soon as we can.
