Roxy trip in Marocco - Day 3 / Lee Ann

Hi all,

Just posting news for day 3 of our morocco trip…

This morning our friend Saad woke us up at 4am to go surf. No maybe it was around 6.30 but all I know is it was really hard to get out of my bed.

We packed our boards and wetsuits and went to a spot called “goats point”. It looked amazing, like a never ending right hand point break with barrels and all so we all jumped in our wetsuits and ran out. But it was really far from what it seemed, most of us made it to the line up but kassi got stuck.  I saw a lot of good waves but it was almost impossible to get one.. and it was much bigger than we thought, jen got a set on the face and broke Candice’s board yew.

Girls really need to get their boards right now, after that session half of the group went back to the airport to check if a miracle had happened (still no boards though).

The other half including Candice, Sally and I went to another spot that we will call “comebacknomore”.

This time waves looked good and they really were, we surfed for 2 hours Sally and I and got plenty of waves, but the tide was coming in and we started to worry about a new problem: how to get out of the water. Waves were  smashing on the cliff, Sally was smart enough to follow Saad the local, I chose to go my own way because I was too lazy to paddle up the point one more time, it took me maybe 40 minutes to get out but it’s all good.

After all these adventure we had a good lunch and chilled for the rest of the day, saving energy for the next 10 days of intense surfing and road tripping.

Don’t forget to check out the photos!

Yalla!

Roxy trip in Marocco - Day 2 / Candice

Hello we are Back again , This time we welcome you all to the mystical country that is

Morocco

. A Country that for most of us for some reason or another have never visited, but have always wanted to, so it only seemed to perfect that Roxy Located Morocco as our next port of call for  the continued Road trip adventure.

Roxy Worked their magic; dates were agreed upon, tickets were booked and the rest is history in the making.

The

Australia Road

trip crew reunited in Marakesh  for a two week mission across Morroco. The crew consisted of Kassi, Lee Ann, Jen, myself(Candice) and one new edition Sally Fitzgibbons. We are lucky enough to have one of the best Moroccan guides on this trip, a hansom young man called Saad. And a long to help him is Mostafa and Kamal. And our Team manager Anne Mollet.

Aline freerides her way to the top

I have just been talking to Aline Bock who is just back from Russia where she was on top place on the podium of the Freeride World Tour in her very first contest!!! This is an amazing achievement and we are all very proud of her. Here is what she had to say about it:

European-Nissan Russian Adventure Sochi-Freeride World Tour 2009

From Russia with Love.... but you never know whats gonna happen….

After the first day of my first Freeride World Tour competition with fresh snow and sunshine (we already had 3 amazing powder days prior to the event, hehe ), I was very excited to have a second run on a different day and a different face to get to know the Russian mountains with their fast changing weather and snow conditions even better. Unfortunately it first had to be postponed due to warm temperatures and dangerous conditions and we didn’t even know if it would be possible to run a second competition day at all. Nevertheless I used the day off to go for some sightseeing and loitering in Sochi City, the future site of the 2014 Winter Olympics at Krasnaya Polyana.

How beautiful can it get, to shred some powder in the morning and then drive down to a city with palm trees, feeling like its summer time :)

On Saturday, the temperature has comeback down to the seasonal norms, and even with the cloud cover, we were able to compete. On the crest of the top ski lift, after a one-hour walk there were 4 possible starting points (2 accessible with harness only) forming a circle facing the ski lift, the show was particularly spectacular. I was full of energy that day and could not wait to drop in my line.

I had nothing to loose as I my first run did not go too well, so I just thought of having fun in the deep powder using the terrain as it looked like a little freestyle course. My mission was to jump of a cliff and windlips in an untouched powderfield as the girls had the advantage of going first. It must have impressed the judges, as I have done something different than the other girls, which were also charging in some steep, nice faces. They put me in first position in overall results and I just could not stop smiling for the rest of the day.

The next Freeride World Tour stop will happen in Squaw Valley(USA) from 27th of Feb until 5th of March and I am really looking forward to it.

Roxy trip in Marocco - Day 1 / Sally

I left

Sydney

on my quest for

Morocco

. It was to be the first of four planes, apparently

Morocco

is not the closest country to

Australia

. I met up with Kassia and Jen in L.A; and we continued on our journey. As we skated through

Paris

airport to change terminals we were all smiles, until security told Jen she had to check the skate board in before boarding our next plane. We finally arrived in Marrakech, our final destination and all our bags were missing, except Jens mini skateboard, which was now broken. We took a visit to the lost baggage room and then Candice flew in from

London

and everyone was excited to see her and have their feet on the ground. We settled at a hotel for the night and feasted on some traditional Moroccan food.

ROXY SNOW TEAM WINS BIG AT WINTER X GAMES XIII

Freeskier Sarah Burke Wins Third Consecutive Gold Medal,

Snowboarder Torah Bright Reclaims Gold and Sets Record for Women’s Snowboarding

Huntington Beach, CA - January 26, 2009 --- Roxy is pleased to congratulate snow team riders, Sarah Burke and Torah Bright, on their amazing performance in Aspen this weekend, striking gold in the SuperPipe at Winter X Games XIII.  Freeskier Sarah Burke took her third consecutive X Games gold medal in the Women’s Ski SuperPipe while snowboarder Torah Bright, reclaimed gold, after winning the Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe in 2007 and finishing with a silver in 2008.  Roxy team rider Kjersti Buaas placed fourth in the Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle and Jess Cumming, who rides for Roxy Skis, took home the bronze medal for her performance in the SuperPipe.

Earlier in the games during the elimination round, Torah set a Winter X Games record for the highest SuperPipe score for women with a 97.33 out of a 100, second only to Olympic gold medalist Shaun White who holds the record for men with 97.34.  Known for being one of the most technical and progressive female snowboards ever, Torah prevailed over the competition in the finals looking stylish as ever in her Gold Signature RoxyBrightEdition jacket with a Backside 360, Switch Backside 7, McTwist, Air to Fakie, Switch Frontside 7. Olympic gold medalists Kelly Clark and Hannah Teter finished second and third respectively.

Sarah proved once again she is the top freeskier in the SuperPipe. Sitting in the second spot going into her third and final run, Sarah came from behind as the last and final skier of the night with a

Cork

900 safety grab, straight air, 540 mute grab, right 540 safety, cork 7 tail. The judges awarded her a 93.33 out of 100, just enough to beat out Jen Hudak’s 92.66. Jess Cumming finished third for a bronze medal, making it Jess’ first appearance on the podium at the Winter X Games.

In addition this year’s Winter X Games, saw many exciting changes with Women’s Freeskiing Slopestyle making its grand debut, along with equal pay for both the men’s and women’s events. Over the past six years Roxy’s Sarah Burke has been instrumental in pushing for the addition of Women’s Freesking Slopestyle and equal pay through her lobbying efforts and continual involvement with the governing bodies for X Games and skiing.

The 2009 Winter X Games XIII were held at Buttermilk Mountain Resort in Aspen/Snowmass,

Colorado

. Top athletes from around the world, including Shaun White, Candide Thovex and Travis Rice competed in snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobile events. The events were nationally televised on ESPN and ABC, check www.exps.com/actionsports for details. For more information about Roxy’s snow team, go to www.roxy.com.

Roxy Team success at the World Championships

The Roxy snow team would like to wish Paulina Ligocka a massif congratulations on her third place in the half pipe at the FIS World Championships in Sungwoo, Korea on the 24th of Jan. The riding in the ladies half pipe was of a very high standard, certainly the highest I have seen at a FIS World Championships, and with all the riders gearing up for the Olympics the competition was tough. There were a few top riders missing, namely Torah Bright, Kjersti Buaas, Kelly Clark, Gretchen Bleiler and Hannah Teter who were all at the X-Games but apart from them the field was as strong as it could have been. First spot went to the impressive Chinese new comer Jiyu Liu whose smooth high airs and perfectly executed backside 540 to frontside 720 to cab 3 just put her in front of Australian Holly Crawford. Holly had been riding with her distinctive aggressive style all week and threw down a massif frontside 900 in the second run to try and better her second place. She just couldn't hold the landing and took second on the score of her first run. Paulina rode consistently throughout the whole competition through the qualifiers, semis and in the finals to end in a well deserved third spot with a smooth and stylish front5, front7, cab3 and McTwist in her run.

Other Roxy team riders at the comp also put down great performances in Korea, notably New Zealander Kendal Brown who had arguably the best backside 540 in the competition and rode in to 11th position. Lisa Wiik continued to push her riding with a totally new competition run and although she couldn't quite get a clean run, coming in 19th place, the step forward in her riding is bound to stand her in good stead and added to her triumph at the BEO when she heads to Canada fro the Canadian Open next week she will be in a strong position for good results in the pipe and slopestyle events. Lesley McKenna, in Korea as rider/coach kept the spirit of progression alive riding high and throwing down big backside 540 and frontside 720. Little sketches kept her from translating the riding into points, as with fellow Roxy rider Mirabelle Thovex, but people certainly noticed the good spirit in the Roxy camp and how it is helping the girls to push their limits. Mirabelle, also part of a very impressive young French team, will now head to Italy for the next World Cup event where she hopes to get a good clean run down and secure her place for France for next season's Olympic Games.

While we were in Korea we also got great news from the X-Games in the US that Torah Bright and Sarah Burke had won the snowboard and ski half pipes respectively, with Kjersti coming 4th in the slopestyle and 7th in the pipe. Go on girls!!!!!

After the event was all good and finished the girls headed to Seoul to take in a bit of Korean City culture. The city proved full of surprises with talent contests literally on every street corner amongst the flashing neon lights and major hustle and bustle.

AUSTRALIA DAY 5 WITH ROXY GIRLS

Hi Friends!  Here is the last episode from the Roxy Road Trip Australia, turn up the sounds and ENJOY!

"So the last day of the trip the waves weren't the best so we decided to go to this waterfall in the mountains.  Its was raining pretty hard, so when we rocked up the fall was flowing full force.  The air was really cold because we were really high up in the Australian mountains.  We threw on our amazing wetsuits and had to get down in the water and check it out, being the adventurous crew we are..Water is the strongest element in nature and being there feeling all the energy around us, we couldn't help but feel ALIVE. This was a perfect ending to a very unique trip.  Thanks for joining us on this incredible adventure. Hope this inspired you to get a few friends together pack up the car and head out on your own road trip. Who knows what you will find" --Candice O'Donnell

Australia day 4 thru Leeanne Curren's eyes

Hi friends~  Wanted to share with you the Roxy girls road trip day number 4 through Leeanne Curren's eyes. enjoy!

"After we painted our masterpiece tent, we really needed to have a good surfing day. We woke up the next day early and checked the waves in front of the camp as the sun was coming up. The conditions were really clean and there were no clouds in the sky, which was a pretty big surprise because its been raining so much lately. It was so amazing what this trip has brought us.  The whole beach was empty and we went out and surfed all day by ourselves, and when we were finally surfed out we cane in and had the idea of making a campfire. The boys went to pick up some wood in the forest while we cooked dinner.  We grabbed the guitars, Jen's "hard-core"-Dion, and made a nice big fire to keep ourselves warm on the beach.  We hammed for a little while and then Millertime told us the craziest surfing stories that he knew, it was interesting...He is a good story teller.  That was really a nice evening, and we decided to sleep on the beach under the moonlight....Which sounded good, but the sand wasn't that comfortable and we were all paranoid by all of the bugs and the spiders just waiting for us to fall asleep to start eating us.  The fire didn't make it through the night either and we were pretty much frozen on the beach when we woke up. But that was a good experience not to go though again, except falling asleep while watching the stars.. --Leeanne Curren
