I have just been talking to Aline Bock who is just back from Russia where she was on top place on the podium of the Freeride World Tour in her very first contest!!! This is an amazing achievement and we are all very proud of her. Here is what she had to say about it:

From Russia with Love.... but you never know whats gonna happen….
After the first day of my first Freeride World Tour competition with fresh snow and sunshine (we already had 3 amazing powder days prior to the event, hehe ), I was very excited to have a second run on a different day and a different face to get to know the Russian mountains with their fast changing weather and snow conditions even better. Unfortunately it first had to be postponed due to warm temperatures and dangerous conditions and we didn’t even know if it would be possible to run a second competition day at all. Nevertheless I used the day off to go for some sightseeing and loitering in Sochi City, the future site of the 2014 Winter Olympics at Krasnaya Polyana.
How beautiful can it get, to shred some powder in the morning and then drive down to a city with palm trees, feeling like its summer time :)
On Saturday, the temperature has comeback down to the seasonal norms, and even with the cloud cover, we were able to compete. On the crest of the top ski lift, after a one-hour walk there were 4 possible starting points (2 accessible with harness only) forming a circle facing the ski lift, the show was particularly spectacular. I was full of energy that day and could not wait to drop in my line.
I had nothing to loose as I my first run did not go too well, so I just thought of having fun in the deep powder using the terrain as it looked like a little freestyle course. My mission was to jump of a cliff and windlips in an untouched powderfield as the girls had the advantage of going first. It must have impressed the judges, as I have done something different than the other girls, which were also charging in some steep, nice faces. They put me in first position in overall results and I just could not stop smiling for the rest of the day.
The next Freeride World Tour stop will happen in Squaw Valley(USA) from 27th of Feb until 5th of March and I am really looking forward to it.
